MarÃa Alejandra is a partner at Consortium Legal – El Salvador, leading the legal practice in foreign investment, international trade, and regulated sector. With more than 21 years of experience in the legal sector in private and public international law, corporate law and as advisor in international public bids for national and foreign companies.
She currently leads a multidisciplinary team and advises extensively in corporate law, foreign investment, infrastructure projects, international trade, and the regulated sector, including energy, natural resources, aeronautics, and new technologies. She mainly advises and strategically accompanies local and international companies in public bids, Public Private Partnerships, concession contracts and provides legal support in negotiations for a wide variety of foreign investors in El Salvador. She frequently represents clients in a wide range of commercial transactions, both local and cross-border. Her client portfolio includes well-known private companies, NGOs, microfinance entities, aeronautical and energy entities, and multinational corporations.
She has held diplomatic positions in the Foreign Service as Legal Advisor and Charge d’Affaires of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Panama, before the Government of the United States of America and in El Salvador, she has served as Consultant of the Pan American Health Organization.
Maria Alejandra also actively participates in the firm’s pro-bono program, as she regularly assists pro-bono organizations, low-income communities, start-ups and entrepreneurs by providing free legal guidance on issues such as family law, domestic violence, labor law, immigration, litigation, incorporation of non-governmental organizations, among others.

Work Highlights
- Advised the international company Cable & Wireless (Panama) in the international bidding process for the 911 System and its implementation in El Salvador.
- Advised COSAPI (Peru) in the infrastructure projects in El Salvador, in the expansion of the passenger and administrative terminal of the International Airport.
- Advises and accompanies the company VOLARIS (Costa Rica, Mexico) in its incursion, start of operations and regional expansion in El Salvador.
- Advises and accompanies AIDS Health Foundation, an international non-profit organization that promotes adequate care and medical supplies for patients and people with Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome in vulnerable or low-income areas, in its incursion process in El Salvador.
- She advises and represents transnational companies in the food, textile, call center, pharmaceutical and retail sectors in their operational headquarters in El Salvador.
